I recently taught a class on how to make six figures in real estate. One idea keeps coming up in conversation: if you are talking to everyone, you’re talking to no one.

Specialists win the client

When your marketing tries to speak to every buyer, seller, and investor at once, the message gets completely watered down. Clients hire the specialist who speaks directly to their problem. The more clearly you say who you help and what you solve, the easier it is for the right people to raise their hand.

The same rule applies to lead generation

“Diluted focus gets diluted results”. One agent in the class said open houses weren’t working for him, but he was only holding one every other week. That isn’t enough volume to know whether a strategy works. My challenge was to hold them every Thursday and every Sunday and see what happens.

Cold calls, direct mail, paid ads, and open houses can all work. But spreading yourself thin across all of them means none of them get the consistency they need. Hitting six figures usually means picking one or two strategies and going really deep.

Knowing is only half the battle

Another agent pointed out after class that knowing what to do is only half of it. Execution takes relentless accountability, and a lot of agents find that uncomfortable. That discomfort is usually the sign you’re doing the work that moves the number.
